Long time McKinney resident, Corey Homer, is announcing his candidacy for the McKinney ISD School Board, Place 3.
“My recent experience in commercial real estate, along with 20 years spent in education, has uniquely equipped me for this role. I have worked directly with students, both on the field and in the classroom. Simply put, I have a heart for kids. At the same time, I understand challenges teachers face and concerns of parents. I will be committed to open communication between our schools and the community.”
Homer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology/English and a Master of Education degree, both from Texas A&M Commerce. At the time of his departure from MISD in 2022, he managed 225 coaches as well as the full fleet of MISD athletic facilities. Homer has operational experience in a host of areas such as employee hiring and professional development, coordination of athletic facility upgrades, stadium and community event management and security, development of drug testing policies, and the creation/expansion of summer camp opportunities for elementary and middle school students.
“I’m going to be an advocate for an education system that encourages intellectual growth and critical thinking – and can demonstrate both are happening for all kids. I care about providing a safe learning environment. I’m committed to being a strong steward of taxpayer dollars. I look forward to working with other members of the school board to accomplish these goals.
While I have strong convictions rooted in my work experience and my role as a parent, I am not driven by any one political agenda, but by practical common sense solutions. I have a proven history of leading and working with others to get things done.
Our graduates, independent of their chosen path, should leave our District highly equipped to succeed and contribute productively to society.”
Homer’s wife, Casie, is the 504 Coordinator for McKinney High School and his daughter, Lucy, attends Valley Creek Elementary School.
